Trying to find the words to share about the amazing time my daughter and I had at Business Boutique in Nashville has been difficult, so I want to start at the beginning.
Many of you know that I lost my mom in a tragic car accident in February, but what you probably don’t know is that I wanted to quit my business after that. How could I get my clients to smile when I was hurting so much inside. I had a long discussion with my husband about what my next move would be and I was considering a major career move. We went over the pros and cons of quitting my photography business and the pros and cons of going to school to become a nurse. After much consideration, it was decided that I would invest in myself and my business which meant upgrading equipment and taking courses that would help me improve my craft.
The very next day, I was listening to Christy Wright’s Business Boutique Podcast when she announced this year’s Nashville Event. As she was announcing the speaker lineup, I just knew that I was supposed to go to this. Christy Wright, Dave Ramsey, Jasmine Star…how could I not go to this?!?! I talked it over with my husband and he was a 1000% on board!
I didn’t want to go alone, so when my daughter shyly asked if she could come with, my heart bursted! You see, my daughter has begun showing her own interest in fashion, hair, and makeup. This event would be perfect for her…and at the young age of 12 years old…WOW! It hit me big time that she is learning at 12 what I am learning at 39!
We left Seattle for Nashville on Wednesday, October 23 and spent the first day doing a little sightseeing. We only had a few hours before the conference, so I Googled “Nashville in one day”. We toured the Murals of Nashville, visited the Country Music Hall of Fame, The Parthenon at Centennial Park, drove through Broadway, and ate lunch at the famous Monell’s. Nashville is a beautiful place with even beautifuler people. The pace of the city was nice and laid back which I loved!
The conference was October 24-26 and was jam packed with amazing speakers sharing their stories, encouragement, and wisdom. Thousands of women gathered to learn how to launch and grow their own business. This was such an amazing opportunity not only for myself but for Gracie. We learned so much about each other, ourselves, and how to be successful in business. I am so thankful for the chance to be able to spend some time with my daughter and fan this burning desire within me to not only grow my business but to make a difference in my community and in this world.
There were so many takeaways from this conference, but for me the biggest one is “Do it scared!”. So many times in my life I hesitate to do things because of fear…fear of making a mistake, fear of rejection, fear of failing. What I learned at Business Boutique is that fear is a normal part of the journey and if I wait until I’m not scared anymore, I’ll never do it. I must and I will do it afraid! Christy Wright says, “Push past your fear and do it scared. You figure out what you are capable of when you do it. You figure it out as you go”.
So, my question for you dear reader is, “What is it you feel you are being called to but are scared to do?”. I urge you as I am urging myself, do it afraid! Just start doing something, ANYTHING that will bring you closer to your goals. I promise you won’t regret it!
